If you’re struggling with inflammation in your body, whether that’s hay fever, arthritis, IBS, skin irritations or any other kinds of inflammatory condition, Turmeric is a great addition to your daily diet and this warming drink is a great way to do that. Unlike the title suggests this is caffeine-free and makes a great evening soother before bed.

Turmeric is being hailed as a superfood because the curcumin it contains has been shown to have natural anti-inflammatory properties. Turmeric works great in curries like this lentil curry but if you don’t fancy curry for dinner every night this drink is another great option.

Gluten-free / Dairy-free / Vegan

Difficulty: Easy

Time: 5-mins

Serves 2

Ingredients

  • 2 mugs/cups of unsweetened plant-milk (I like almond or coconut milk drink)

  • 1 tbsp local honey (optional)

  • 1/2 tsp ground turmeric

  • 1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

  • A small pinch of black pepper – this helps release the curcumin – which is the anti-inflammatory compound from the turmeric

  • 1 tsp ground ginger (optional)

Method

  1. Add all ingredients to a blender (if you have one) and blend until combined and powders have dissolved or whisk powders into milk by hand.

  2. Pour into a small saucepan and bring to a light boil, reduce heat to low and simmer for up to 5 minutes or serve over ice if too hot for a warm drink!
